IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Make TSA start DB2 under system.slice, in order to gracefully stop/takeover databases on shutdowns/reboots.

Since init was replaced by systemd as the linux main process (in 2014 !), it makes huge difference the way DB2 is started. At server shutdown or reboot, the user processes are all killed, and only then systemd starts to stop the services. This beh...

Add support for NFS 4.2 on AIX 7.2

Sparse file support was added in NFSv4.2 and currently AIX supports NFS4.1 which does not have sparse capability. DB2 only supports fast pre-allocation on some file systems. Including Veritas VxFS, JFS2, GPFS,ext4 and xFS. Kindly include the suppo...

Solaris client in Db2 v11.5

Db2 dropped the support for Solaris in V11.5, which is fine for server. However, many clients who run in Solaris could connect to other server (Linux, windows, AIX).

Enable DB2 instances on AUFS (Docker)

DB2 can be installed on AUFS, but database instances cannot be created (see https://github.com/jeffbonhag/db2-docker/issues/2#issuecomment-52920986). DB2 express (and every other edition) uses O_DIRECT to access the file system, which is not avail...

DB2TCP_CLIENT_KEEPALIVE_TIMEOUT doesn't work on Linux

DB2 unable to detect dead network card on server when setting registry variable DB2TCP_CLIENT_KEEPALIVE_TIMEOUT. Since it does not detect the dead network card, this prevents automatic client re-route from starting. Problem is specific to Linux pl...

Method to prevent DB2 from modifying operating system tunables; print diag msg instea(RIMS)

Goldman Sachs deploys hundreds of db2 database instances. Many of these instances are configured to consume predefined resources in a system shared with other instances or dbms' or applications. In many cases, these instances are duplexed via QRep...

wait-for-delay functionality (server side sleep without spinning CPU)(RIMS)

Customer requests the ability to add a server-side sleep function that does not consume CPU or require an external routine. Such a routine would be useful in that it can be added to an SQL procedure to perform a sleep/delay, without having to intr...

AIX IOCP activation should be optional(RIMS)

Currently, when you install DB2 10.1 on AIX, it assumes that you want to use IOCP. But not only does it default DB2_USE_IOCP to ON, it also turns on IOCP at the AIX level. Some customers (including us) have bad experiences of IOCP and do not wan...
