IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Db2 backup is saving all database objects regardless if the objects (especially indexes) could be re-created, because the objects contain just redundant data. Db2 already provides the DBM CFG parameter INDEXREC which configures when an invalid i...

db2adutl parallelism

Usually our Db2 backups to TSM are performed using parallelism, sometimes up to parallelism 10. Occasionally we restore a Db2 system in another operating center from where we have no access to the TSM server. In the source environment the Db2 back...

2G limitation in Db2 utility heap size allocation

If the number of buffers and buffer size are not user specified in the BACKUP DB command then Db2 limits the utility heap size allocation to 2G. Please remove this cap to allow for higher default allocation of the utility heap size which in turn s...

Improve backup configuration

Actually we need to define some environment variables like DSMI_DIR, DSMI_CONFIG to implement a TSM backup. So in case we forget to configure this at first moment we will need to do an instance restart. Would be better to consider some dynamic par...

Restore at table level

Mainly on auditing needs when you have to get some information from the past or when you need to recover just one table only its nowadays you have to do a complete restore. Would be good to have this feature.

Support AWS IAM Roles with Remote Object Storage using AWS S3 Storage for Backups and Archive Logs

AWS promotes usage of IAM Roles (an AWS construct) for managing access to shared S3 object storage across many EC2 Instances. This is the recommended approach for managing backup images and archive logs. With the added support of S3 remote stora...

Extend Db2 AWS S3 Support to Include Log Archiving

Db2 added support for backup / restore / load copy to / from Amazon S3 and IBM Cloud ObjectStore some time ago. The one thing missing from this as an overall solution is to allow archive logs to be written to object storage, in the same way as th...
