We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Post your ideas
Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,
Post an idea
Upvote ideas that matter most to you
Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea
Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests
The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.
Receive notification on the decision
Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.
Current, for L1 (or L2) backups we need to read all pages. This is highly inefficient and there are alternatives for implementing this.In the PMR we've been told this matches old FEA idsdb00010525. In this the proposed solution was to maintain a t...
Implement CREATE OR REPLACE option for triggers/views/synonyms/row types
Since a similar option for stored procedures is available starting with version 14.10 it would be handy if this syntax could also be introduced for triggers, views, synonyms and row types. Currently you first have to drop a trigger/view/synonym or...
Character length semantics instead of byte length semantics
We want to store UTF8 text data into our database but using byte length semantics is counter intuitive on the char and varchar types. We are using Fourj's Genero tool to develop our application and Genero is able to switch to character length sema...
Allow the specification of the isolation mode at the statement level
The programmer should be able to specify the isolation mode (committed read, dirty read, serializable etc.) at the statement level.I don't have a definitive idea on how to specify this in terms of syntax. It could be in a "clean" way like: SELECT ...
Online.log could also print session detail of additional memory segment allocation
In high usage OLTP systems, it is a hard work to identify which session(s) is(are) demanding too much memory from the Informix engine.A good thing for us to help to identify abnormal programs execution/behaviour would be to print session details (...
Consolidate free space across entire chunk or dbspace
I suggest a repack-like tool which consolidates free space in an entire chunk or dbspace in order to get few, big enough, free spaces to use efficiently. Being able to do so online and with little blocking is desirable
For high use OLTP systems, there can be a lot of I/O pressure on the logical log due to intense rate of logical log buffer flushing (most customer don't ant data loss so they use UNBUFFERED LOG). Setting BUFFERED LOG at session level would hardly ...
Make adoption of forest-of-trees indices easier with existing large tables
Rebuilding an index as a FOT is not supported using "alter fragment on index init". This would be useful to avoid dropping and later re-adding primary keys and referencing foreign keys. Building a FOT index is not possible in parallel. Building a ...
HQ add essential incidents/events/status tracking and alerting
HQ is on its way to be a great monitoring tool. In order to ensure it is, here are some important features to add (not sure I could see them on FC3).
Let's first deal with missing essential alerts:- include notion of warning and critical inciden...
