Scheduling reports in Excel is the first step in the process of preparing Consolidated Financial Statements for the business leaders. Each business leader receives a Consolidated workbook with multiple tabs (BS, P&L and CF) for the companies, lines of business and departments they are responsible for.
The Controller scheduler should extract hundreds of Excel files. Each file should contain only one worksheet, which represents one view : one company, one line of business, one department.
These extracted reports are then used to populate the pre-built Consolidated workbooks. The worksheets of these Consolidate workbooks are created once, as per the business leaders' responsibilities, and then re-used every month when they are updated from the extracted reports.
Essentially, a VBA macro would open the extracted reports and copy/paste them in the Consolidated workbooks using a pre-defined list. This list includes the following information: the name of the extracted file to copy, the name of the Consolidated workbook and the name of the tab where the information should be copied to.
