Self-Service Restart, Status Monitoring, and Alert Notifications for API-Batch Service in Controller Web

Description

Currently, when the API-Batch Service encounters issues or stops functioning, users must raise an IBM support case and wait for the SRE team to manually restart the service. This dependency introduces significant delays, especially during critical month-end periods when timely data loading is essential. As a result, several data loads remain stuck until the service is restored, impacting Controller data availability and user productivity.

Current Challenge

  • No self-service capability exists for restarting the API-Batch Service.

  • Service restoration depends on IBM support intervention, causing delays.

  • Lack of visibility into API-Batch Service status within Controller Web.

  • No alert mechanism to notify stakeholders when the service fails.

  • Month-end data loading is disrupted, leading to missed deadlines and operational inefficiencies.

Proposed Enhancement

  • Provide self-service functionality within Controller Web to allow authorized users to restart the API-Batch Service without IBM support intervention.

  • Introduce a status page for API-Batch Service within Controller Web, similar to the existing FAP Service status page, showing:

    • Service health indicators

    • Error messages

    • Links to logs for troubleshooting

  • Implement configurable alert notifications (email or system alerts) to inform relevant teams when the API-Batch Service fails or stops unexpectedly.

Expected Benefit

  • Reduce dependency on IBM support for routine service recovery.

  • Minimize downtime and delays in data loading during critical periods.

  • Improve operational efficiency and ensure timely availability of Controller data.

  • Enhance system transparency and user experience through real-time service status visibility.

  • Enable proactive response through alerts, reducing the risk of prolonged outages.

Business Impact

This enhancement will deliver significant operational and financial benefits:

  • Improved Month-End Efficiency: Ensures uninterrupted data loading during limited month-end windows, supporting timely financial close processes.

  • Reduced Operational Risk: Eliminates delays caused by manual intervention and dependency on external support.

  • Support Optimization: Decreases time spent by internal teams and IBM support on routine service recovery.

  • Enhanced Reliability: Strengthens system stability, enabling users to trust the platform for critical financial operations.

  • Better Service Continuity: Proactive alerts and self-service restart minimize downtime and ensure consistent data loading & availability.
