Use or mimic Global Parameters to work on Dashboards to set Filters by user

Currently we have a  Dashboard with a BranchOffice Filter.  The users do not have save/updated capability on Dashboards.  We don't want a free for all of changing and saving the dashboards.  If that was the case, then every user would have to go thru the filters every time to make sure they are set appropriately for them.  In order to have each Branch have the data tailored for them, I would have to copy the one dashboard 20 times with unique names.  I would then set the Filters on each of the 20 dashboards to be different.  If we ever want to change the Dashboard, I would have to make the change on the Master and then copy/replace the 20 copies I previously made, and reset each dashboards filters.  This solution is not scale-able / feasible.

    Have a look at this new 11.2 extension as i believe it tackles this.

    I am about to create a reporting project for my company and this is blocking the use of dashboards. With 32 managers, it would be inefficient to deploy and maintain dashboards. Active Reports is also out of the question due to browser compatibility issues.

    The abilty to filter for the user viewing the report would be extremely useful; a manager could see reports filtered for their subordinates or see just the data for projects that they manage, etc.

    Thanks for submitting this. We have a Project Managers Dashboard that unfortunately like you state, every time they access it, they have to set the filter to only show their projects. We don't allow them to save as it would affect the next PM using the dashboard. Only solution which is crazy is replicate for ever PM in the organization. This limitation definitely inhibits promoting corporate dashboards to be consumed by a large group of users.
