Enhance Report Reference and Layout Component Reference

Both the Layout Component Reference and the Report Reference functionality in reports have limitations that prevent report authors from leveraging previously developed content. I would like to see these enhanced so that authors do not need to redevelop content that already exists.


Report Reference

The use of a Report reference allows other reports to be embedded in a single report. This works well, however we create many reports with tabbed pages and the Report reference cannot be added to a tabbed report. I would request that this be enhanced to allow these in a tabbed report as it would provide a simple and elegant solution to package lots of pre created content into a single report.


Layout Component Reference

Like the Report Reference, this allows content from another report to be embedded in another. However, only the page content is referenced and not the queries that populate the data containers. This means that the queries have to be rewritten from scratch or copied from the other report. I would like to see an option in the Layout Component Reference that allows the queries to also be referenced.


The lack of this functionality results in more time being spent on both development and maintenance as multiple copies of essentially the same content has to be developed and maintained.

    This is not currently on our roadmap. However we will continue monitoring this idea through public voting. The status will be adjusted if priorities change.

    These are great ideas. We would also agree with this.

    In addition, the ability to have Tab Names dynamically pulled based on Language (from a Data Label - so it's dynamic and not built in Report Builder, but part of the Framework Manager Package)
