We need to submit a request to enhance Cognos Analytics. Dynatrace is a system monitoring tool. It monitors your infrastructure (Server memory, CPU, etc.), as well as the application (in memory monitoring). When Dynatrace is enabled there is a feature that is called “Real User Monitoring (RUM)” that analyzes the performance of all user interactions with an application. However, this feature has to be turned off because when it is enabled there is a code injection that takes place that breaks Cognos due to how Cognos handles exceptions. We have been informed by the monitoring team that our application is one of a very few with this issue, and to resolve the issue it involves making a change to the configuration of the Dynatrace application that impacts all of JPMC. Dynatrace is a requirement for our Cognos applications to migrate to the new data center. They said they will enable a temporary work around, but we must resolve this issue with IBM. The suggestion they have to resolve the issue is below:
Possible Solution:
Do not use Java RUM V2and have app teams work their code around RUM injection
If you would like to encourage app teams to fix their code they need to see where the exception (ClassCastException)is happening in their Code, they can do one of two things:
Type-checking to validate when they cast the response/request object (likely HttpServletRequest or HttpServletResponse) for the HttpServlet to a request object that they use. Make sure it is associated with the class that is being cast to, and not part of the RUM sensor.
Alternatively, do a try-catch block on the cast, and catch the ClassCastException and handle gracefully in their code.
