When building dynamic reports, it is sometimes necessary to build expressions that you know will fail in certain scenarios. In these cases having an error catching mechanism, like status, is incredibly useful.
In this case I would like to be able to construct a URL in the fact cells of a crosstab including items that may, or may not, be actually present in the data container (or even the query).
Based on the description of the status function "Returns the status of "expression". Possible values are: 0 - OK, 1 - null, 2 - not available, 4 - divide by zero, 8 - overflow, 16 - security, 32 - error, 64 - new, 128 - sample, 256 - pending." I believe doing something like status([Missing Data Item]) should return either a 2 or 32. At the moment the report throws the error: "RSV-VAL-0006 Failed to validate the layout expression status([Missing Data Item]) due to the missing item Missing Data Item in the query Report.". Likewise, the InScope function should also work with unreferenced data items. InScope([Missing Data Item]) should return a 0 but instead the report validator fails.
Unfortunately the only workaround is to build the report in such a way that the data items are never out of scope. Very very painful.
