License report does not consider removed users

We currently have the following scenario.

The standard Manage > License feature is reporting user licenses.

Users removed from AD are removed from the output after running a consistency check task. So far so good..

We have users that can no longer access to the environment, but still exist in AD.
These are not removed from the license report, but they should.

Otherwise this report is incorrect.

To remove those users, the only advice currently published is to remove the user profile one-by-one via administration console. This is very time consuming if there are a lot of users to clean-up (ex. Quarterly batch cleanup of users not logged on 6 months).

Users are part of AD groups; ex. AD_Cognos_Users / AD_Cognos_Explorers/AD_Cognos_Admins

Option I see:

  • Allow consistency check to check only part of the AD 'tree'. ie. a particular (or ideally multiple) AD groups where users reside in..
Alternatively restrict the AD tree in cognos config.

You might have other options, a batch script, or ...
Any case 'as-is' the license report is only half of a solution as it's not 100% accurate.
