Data Modules - Capabilities to restrict access to specific types of sources

There are 5 types of sources for data modules:

  • packages

  • data modules

  • data sets

  • uploaded files

  • data server connections

Not every user should see or have access to all of these types of sources. For example we don't want our users to upload files and accordingly they shouldn't see this type of source when they use the data module editor.

We know that since release 11.2.4 object specific capabilities can also be set for data modules and data sets (and packages) to prevent that these specific objects can be used in a new data module. But this does not apply generally. For example when a user generates a data set and doesn't set object specific capabilities. A data modeler can then use this data set in new data module.

Our idea is to grant/deny the use of the specific types of sources generally and not only object specific.

The possibility to handle this object specifically does not apply to uploaded files and data server connections. There is currently no solution to hide the buttons for those two types of sources.
