Functionality To Pass Dashboard This Tab Filter values with Invert i.e. exclude in drill through

High Level Summary

------------------

  • Issue IS Dashboard drill-through pass filter values with Invert i.e. exclude

  • Issue IS NOT Dashboard drill-through pass filter values selected

  • Issue IS Dasboard This tab, Global tab and Local filter options

  • Issue IS both drill-through to target report and dashboards

  • Issue IS Cognos Analytics 11.1.7.x, 11.2.4.x and 12.0

  • Have created a Dashboard with Drill-Through definition to a target Report to pass selected This tab filter values from Dashboard to Report.

  • When set This tab filters with "Invert" to exclude data item elements and perform a Drill-through to the target report, there are no data item values passed. Expect to see i.e. non excluded data values passed, instead observe a null value passed for the parameter.

  • If set the filter values with specific selected data item elements, the target report receives the data item values filtered to the target report as expected.

  • Similar inconsistent behavior observed with a standard Dashboard to Dashboard drill-through actions. Set filter with "Invert" to exclude multiple data item elements and perform a Drill-through to the target Dashboard. The target Dashboard global filters show filtered values for all except the 1st excluded data value.

Business Impact

----------------

Unable to use the full Dasboard drill-through funtionality to pass data items within filters having Invert data items with "exclude". Workarounds to only select filter data items only may not be user friendly if there are 100s of data item values within the Dashboard filter list.

This is a documented limitation. It's good that it's documented.

We agree with the above poster, that there should be someway of drilling through and capturing state when an exclude filter is used.

One way to do this would be to pass the state of the include/exclude to another report parameter. Report authors can then decide what to do with that state. T
