Dashboard data tray available in Read mode

The data tray is only available in Edit mode.

Often users want to be able to see the numbers behind the visual. Currently the user either has to

  1. switch to edit mode.
We dont want basic users seeing the complexity of dashboard authoring tools just to see the data.

  2. authors provide a drill through.
Complicated as we would have to write it for every viz on the dashboard.

  3. Provide a complimentary table/list viz to back up the graphical viz.
Wastes screen space, and we dont know which viz the user wants to see the numbers for.

  4. User could change the viz to a table/list.
Again, not suitable for a novice.

The full data tray could be confusing to dashboard consumers. For example, the data module view, or all the different tables views could be very confusing.

A limited data tray should be available in read mode.

  1. Opening the data tray with no visualisation should show a message 'no viz selected'.

  2. If a viz is selected and the data tray is opened then the data behind that visualisation should be shown in a simple list format. There should be some limited user interaction.

    1. Users should have the option to export to excel, like the current data tray.

    2. Users should be click on a column to sort by that data.

    3. Users should be able to rearrange columns in the data tray

Other data interaction, such as filtering etc, should not be available. After all that can be done on the viz itself.

One place where this would REALLY add value is that if a viz has a forecast on it, the user can easily get that forecast out of the dashboard and into something else.
