Search should look for Ids, not just labels

WIthin Data Modules and Reports you can for items. For example, I could search for 'Sales'. This will show me all the items with Sales in the name.

However, within reports and data module expressions, it is an objects Id that is shown and not the label. For example, an item could have the id of 'sl_gbp' with the label of 'Sales'. Within the report expression/data module expression you would see 'sl_gbp'. There is no way of finding what item 'sl_gbp' is.

If you search for sl_gbp then the report and data module search functions return nothing.

In a large data model you will have thousands if items. There is no easy way for a developer to edit an expression, see what it is based on and find that item.

The search functionality should be able to search on names and ids. An additional bonus would be for the search function to be able to search for fully qualified items. For example, not just search on sl_gbp, but to be able to search on query.item, for example FCST.SL_GBP.


This functionality would

  1. Improve developer efficiency as they can easily find what a data item actually is.

  2. Improve the developer experience as they no longer have to spend ages searching for where a data item is within a data module.

In a multilingual model, the search functionality should be able to return results when searching on any language.
