Enabling Interactivity Across Multiple Containers in a Report

By enabling interactivity across these containers, actions taken in one container (like selecting a data point) can dynamically influence the content and display of another container on the same report canvas.

When a user selects a data point or a set of data in one container, it should automatically filter, highlight, or otherwise modify the data displayed in another container. For instance, clicking on a region in a map could refresh a sales data table or adjust a profit chart to reflect information relevant to that region.

Provide ability to Configure the Interactivity to either filter or select a item in the detail containers.

Why Is It Useful?

  • Enhanced User Experience: This feature makes reports more interactive and user-friendly, allowing users to explore data more deeply and intuitively within a single report interface.
  • Improved Insights: By enabling related data visualizations to interact with each other, users can gain better insights as changes in one visualization immediately reflect in others, helping to understand complex datasets and correlations.
  • Efficient Analysis: Saves time and effort as users do not need to manually update each container or navigate between different reports or tabs to see related information.
     
  • Implementing such a feature would make Cognos more competitive by aligning it with modern expectations of interactivity and fluidity in data handling and visualization, crucial for today's fast-paced business environments.

    These interactive features are currently available in the dashboard canvas, but integrating them into the reporting canvas will allow users to leverage all the powerful features specific to reporting canvas. It may be more beneficial to have a unified development canvas for both reporting and dashboards to streamline the creation process and enhance functionality across platforms.
