Keep HTML view of report in browser when changing it to Excel version

In Cognos Analytics 11.1.7, users ran a report with prompts on the report page with the List in HTML. From the Viewer they would select Run > Excel, which would open a separate window browser Window for the Excel download. The original Cognos Viewer browser window with the HTML report was still there allowing the users to change the prompt using the prompt on the report page to display different results, and export to Excel again.


In 11.2.4 when a report is in Cognos Viewer in HTML format, selecting Run > uses the Viewer window to download the Excel file, and no longer displays the HTML report but the message about the file download. User has to re-run the report as HTML to reselect prompt values and export to Excel again. This change of behavior disrupts the workflow they are accustomed to in 11.1.7.


We request that functionality be changed in the current version of Cognos analytics that will provide the users the ability to change prompts in the HTML report in Viewer and export Excel without the download message.

    Valid feedback. Note that you do not need to run the report again, you can switch back to the HTML view of the report by using the dropdown that says "Excel", in your screenshots.
