Enhancement Request: Return Empty Result Set for Restricted Parameters in Cognos Reports with Planning Analytics Cube

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Background

In Cognos Analytics, reports using Planning Analytics (TM1) cubes as a data source fail with an error message when users query parameters they lack access to due to element-level security in the cube. This disrupts the user experience and prevents users from adjusting parameters or exploring accessible data.

Proposed Enhancement

Instead of returning an error, return an empty result set when a user selects restricted parameters, similar to how relational data sources handle row-level security. This approach maintains the report’s usability without compromising security.

Benefits

  1. Improve User Flow: Users can adjust parameters and continue their workflow without interruptions.

  2. Consistency: Aligns Planning Analytics cube experience with relational data sources.
