Include unsubscribe Link in watch item mails to allow convenient removal of subscriptions.

Overview
This proposal outlines an enhancement to IBM Cognos that would allow users to unsubscribe from watch item notifications directly within the email, eliminating the need to manually navigate the Cognos interface. This feature would improve user experience, reduce administrative overhead, and enhance usability for individuals transitioning roles.

Current Challenge
Currently, users receiving watch item notifications must log in to Cognos, locate their watch item subscriptions, and manually remove them. This process can be cumbersome, especially for users who have changed roles and no longer require the notifications but may not have immediate access to Cognos.

Proposed Enhancement
We propose adding an "Unsubscribe" link within watch item notification emails. When clicked, this link would:

  1. Authenticate the user’s request securely.
  2. Directly remove the corresponding watch item subscription.
  3. Provide a confirmation message indicating successful unsubscription.

Benefits

  • Improved User Experience: Users can manage their subscriptions effortlessly without needing to log in.
  • Efficiency & Productivity: Saves time by eliminating manual steps in Cognos.
  • Enhanced Role Transitions: Employees changing roles can easily unsubscribe from outdated watch items.
  • Reduced Support Overhead: Minimizes IT and administrator intervention for managing subscriptions.

Implementation Considerations
To ensure security and proper functionality, we recommend:

  • Implementing a secure token-based authentication mechanism to prevent unauthorized unsubscriptions.
  • Logging all unsubscription actions for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Providing an optional confirmation prompt before finalizing the unsubscription.

Conclusion
This enhancement would significantly streamline the watch item subscription management process, making Cognos more user-friendly and efficient. We appreciate your consideration of this proposal and welcome the opportunity to discuss further implementation details.
