Interactive Viewer Interface Enhancements

The interactive viewer interface has areas where it could be improved.

Filter Button.

A report author can disable the interactive viewer functionality and toolbar to prevent a report consumer using the interactive viewer functionality. If the interactive viewer is disabled the report viewer interface still contains a FILTERs button (top right hand corner under the Personal Menu icon). If the interactive viewer is disabled then there is no purpose in this filter button being available.

Note that this filters button is different to the filters button available on the interactive toolbar.

Consistency In the User Interface.

Filters  - To edit the existing filters the user doesn't click on the filters toolbar button, instead they click on a filters button in a very different place. This shows the filters in a right hand side window pane.
Sorting - To edit sorting options, the user accesses the sorting options on the sort menu. This opens up a modal window showing sorting options.
Grouping - to edit grouping applied by the grouping button, the user must use the option on the sorting menu.

There is no consistency in these options.
If a user wants to see what they have done in the interactive viewer then they must go to different places. They cant easily see an overview of what they have done.

My preference would be to add the sorting, grouping that have been applied also be shown in the right hand filters pane. This pane should be changed to a different name 'Interactive Operations'.

When this pane is opened it would show all filters applied, all sorting applied and all grouping appled - giving the user a single easy way to see the things they have done. They should also be able to edit these here.

Opening this pane - this button should be moved from its existing location (far right under personal menu) to a button on the interactive toolbar. This makes this functionality easier for a user to discover. It also means this pane can only be accessed if the interactive toolbar is available.

If the button to open this pane is placed on the interactive toolbar then there is no longer a need for the 'edit sort' menu item. If this pane is not opened from the interactive viewer toolbar then the filter and sort menus should have 'edit' options added to them just like the sort menu does. All of these would open up the interactive pane.

All menus of the sort, filter, group should be made consistent. For instance there is an option to remove all filters, but no option to remove all sorts. Again - these could be moved to the interactive pane.

Interactivity Even When Disabled.

When interactivity is disabled, the click to select a cell in the report output still highlights a cell. There is no reason to highlight the selected cell when interactivity is disabled.

This is painful as we embed prompts inside a data container in order to format the prompts based on data from the data container query. As the prompt is embedded in a data container, when the user clicks on any part of the prompt the whole thing turns blue. This is because the outer data container selects the cell.

Thank you Marc for reaching out and providing a detailed enhancement list for the interactive viewer. I have reviewed the details and will spit these enhancements over next few releases.
