Brushing Improvements - CUG2026

Brushing is great step, but it could be improved in a few ways.

1. We should be able to use items defined in data container properties. I would expect that I would be able to set parameters on items defined in the list properties. At the moment if the item isn't dragged in we can't use it.

2. Setting parameters only sets the use value. I'd love to be able to set both use and display values at the same time.

3. We can only set one value at a time. Some sort of mechanism to select multiple would make certain tasks easier.

4. Deselecting parameters is a pain. Since the behavior is defined on a data container level, clearing a parameter involves dragging in another list, using a dummy data item, and formatting that to look nice. It's silly. I'd like to be able to set the behavior when clicking on a list header, or a crosstab intersection.

5. We shouldn't need to use data items. If we could just type in the values we want, in the places we want to use them, we could make incredibly complex behaviors for reports.

6. The entire brushing API should be exposed through the Cognos prompt API. This should include adding onchange events, and setting the parameters directly.

7. Sync up more with Active Reports.

   2. Add in a deck object. I can think of a few ways of doing it. A series of divs with a data attribute to show/hide, or a template object that can be populated from the cache. Provide a dropdown to select transition effects.

8. Add a mechanism to add data attributes to rows and cells generated in lists and crosstabs, then either give the author a mechanism to filter/select those through brushing, or leave them for custom control authors.
