IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Allow Selection of Individual Objects When Creating a Data Module Based on an Existing Data Module

When creating a new data module based on an existing data module, Cognos Analytics currently loads the entire source data module by default. In our environment, we have very large data modules with more than 500 query subjects. As a result, the initial load of the complete data module significantly degrades performance and often makes the new data module temporarily unusable.

Our intended workaround is to first remove the automatically integrated source data module from the new data module and then manually add only the required query subjects. This process is cumbersome, slow, and frustrating for our users, especially when repeated frequently.

Requested Enhancement: Instead of automatically integrating the entire source data module, Cognos Analytics should present a selection dialog at the beginning of the “Create data module from data module” process. In this dialog, the user should be able to select which objects (e.g., query subjects, or other relevant items) from the existing data module should be included in the new data module.

Benefits:

  • Improved performance when creating new data modules from large existing data modules.

  • More efficient and streamlined workflow, as users no longer need to remove unnecessary objects after creation.

  • Increased usability and clarity for business users, who can explicitly choose only the objects they need.

  • Reduced load on system resources by avoiding the initial integration of hundreds of unused query subjects.
