Interactive Viewer should work when data containers are referenced using Layout Component References

Layout Component References allow you to reuse content from one report within another. This is a great feature allowing you to have a basic library of objects and reuse them across multiple reports. In an enterprise solution this allows you to easily reuse a list or crosstab or chart within multiple reports.

However, when a report contain has a list or crosstab that is actually an LCR the interactive viewer is no longer available. From a user experience they can see a list in one reports and interact with it, and in another report they can see an identical list and not interact with it.

Technically this is because an LCR is read only, it does not have any properties of the pointed to object. For example, if a list is actually an LCR then there is no sort order property for the interactive viewer to set.

Regardless of if an object is a real object or an LCR to an object the interactive viewer should behave in the same way.

To overcome the read only nature of the objects the interactive viewer could be enable, but not have the SAVE option. The save icon could be disabled with a tooltip stating that the report is read only.

This current limitation impacts enterprise solutions were we want a library of standard components that can be reused across multiple reports.

I logged this as a recent support case and told this was design as intended and not a bug hence the enhancement request ( TS019227738 )
