Yes a very good feature to have. We have a requirement currently in our project but I still upload files manually
In my opinion, this is an essential feature that needs to be added to continue to separate Cognos Analytics from other BI Tools.
The use of the "Manage External Data" functionality within report studio is limited.
This feature would allow me to schedule a refresh of a file, then schedule a refresh of data set (highly performant parquet file), and any associated data modules.
Thus allowing accurate and responsive Dashboards and Stories without any manual intervention.
Requiring manual refreshing seems unnecessary and old fashioned!
I'm deeply disappointed to see that this essential feature is not yet available in CA 11.2.3 !!!
We are surely loosing opportunities against the competition ( Tableau, PwrBI etc..) due to the missing of this feature which is highly demanded by customers.
this was a long pending ask and will save every one time to have a customized solution
Yes. Our company also have business cases need to have the ability to schedule and refresh an uploaded file. Hope IBM can add the feature into next Cognos 11 release.
I think this functionality is already available. SQL server picks up the excel files from a shared folder. Then you set up a data module pointing to the external data source. It's a different process with the same results. Data feeds could be scheduled from a data module containing all these "external" feeds.
This should be prioritized above all the rest especially if Cognos Analytics team want to compete (or fend-off) with the vendors like MS Power BI or Tableau from stealing their user-base.
It is possible for the old "external data" functionality but we want to replace that by "uploaded files"
That would be great. You could schedule some reports to output as Excel or text and define output to server and use those outputs as datasource for dashboards.
