Cognos BI - Prevent concurrent sessions in Cognos

Please contact glenda.satuito@accenture.com for this request.

How Cognos works is that once a user is authenticated, a CAM object will be created in the content manager. This object is referenced by a CAM Passport passed back to the browser. The CAM object will be removed if either the user log off or the session expires. With your proposed restriction, the user would not be able to log in at all as long as the CAM object is still alive. This means upon a concurrent log in, the user will have to wait until the first session expires if the user closed the window without logging out. Such scenario is not desirable.

Recommended solution: Implement a feature for the second login to ask the user whether the previous session should be terminated

Option 1 - Terminate Any Concurrent Session: Implement a feature for the second login to ask the user whether the previous session should be terminated. If termination is requested a real time pop up on the terminated session screen would appear indicating that the session is being logged out with an identifier of the host performing the termination.

Option 2 (Less Preferable) – Allow Concurrent Sessions If A Business Requirement: Implement a feature when any subsequent logins take place that a real time pop up would appear on all active sessions identifying all host machines using the same credentials.

Another possibility is to notify the user logging in that there is a concurrent login session on the system

This feature would also be useful for us in our environment that deals with FTI data.
