Grouping of Columns in List Report

We are being tasked with developing a complex report that requires the use of Java Script and other advanced reporting techniques. One of the requirements is to be able to display groups of measures under a section in a list, much like a crosstab report. Due to the nature of the report, a list object is required, but a crosstab feel with the nesting of measures under a group heading. For instance a report might have 6 measures and the first 3 measures belong to group 'A', and measures 4 through 6 to group 'B'. We are looking for a way to nest measures (columns) 1,2,3 under group 'A', and 3,4,5 under group 'B'.
