Support for VARBINARY data type (HANA) in DQM in IBM Cognos Analytics

The import of fields with the data type VARBINARY from HANA in IBM Framework Manager rises an error. To connect to HANA DQM mode is required. The import of fields with an VARBINARY data type in IBM Framework Manager causes the DQM-error XQE-GEN-0006 Function not supported yet: 'binary'.

VARBINARY is the most efficient way in HANA to store technical keys generated using hash-technology. The import of those key fields to IBM Cognos Analytics is required to construct a valid business model. The support of VARBINARY data type by IBM Cognos Analytics is therefore required.

 

The implementation of VARBINARY data type in IBM Cognos Analytics need to take into consideration the following characteristics:

1) what IBM Cognos Analytics has done to avoid automatically injecting expressions (i.e cast as varchar) that could cause a type conversion
2) ensure documentation is provided with respect to customers updating existing IBM Cognos Analytics apps where those types may have been 'treated' as a VarChar etc
