Custom Modeling in Data Modules from Planning Analytics

Using a data source connection to a Planning Analytics application, I'm able to generate a Cognos Analytics Data Module from specific application cubes.  However, when opening the Data Module, I first have to create a table/view of the application to even see the structural information passed from the application, and this information isn't available for preview like columns/tables/views from other data sources.  It also isn't customizable - e.g., since the data can't be previewed, individual members also can't be grouped or organized into custom hierarchies or navigation paths.  There doesn't appear to be a workaround for this other than just using the automatically-generated data module and creating all of the needed groups, joins, and other relationships in every single report that uses them.  Being able to do this modeling in a Data Module would save significant developer time when working with data from Planning Analytics applications.  This effects our entire development team when we work with Planning Analytics data.

I propose that Data Modules generated from Planning Analytics applications be more easily visible and customizable, making the full functionality of Data Modules available for modules created from PA data source connections.  There doesn't seem to a point of having a semantic layer/Data Module option for PA if the functionality of Data Modules isn't available.
