Direct export to PowerPoint

Cognos does not provide a facility to directly extract to Microsoft PowerPoint.
Using a PowerPoint “pull” method recommended by IBM would require double the maintenance overhead and also be problematic in other areas such as displaying image files.
Converting from Adobe PDF to PowerPoint is one option, however it often introduces translation errors ranging from subtle to major.

    In the Cognos Analytics Dashboarding Deep Dive Webinar on 16-Sep-2025, we raised the question about being able to export Dashboard content to PowerPoint. It would be great to have the ability to do this with all Cognos Analytics content too!

    Why is Powerpoint direct output still not supported within the Cognos platform after all these years ?!? CMO ( Cognos for Microsoft Office ) has been stalled since v.10 and doesn't support all new v.11/v.12 objects ( dahsboards, viz11.x, stories etc.. ) therefore is not anymore an valid option.
    Powerpoint has become a defacto commodity for all business graphical presentations, and will be there still for long time, therefore having a Powerpoint output in Cognos should be as straighforward/natural as having an Excel, PDF or CSV output from Cognos.

    It would be very useful to be able to insert CA objects into PowerPoint presentations.

    The objects would need to be updateable so regular presentations can be prepared in a jiffy.

    This is highly desirable at Takeda... every call we have with IBM we ask when PowerPoint export functionality is coming.
