This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

IBM Update
Thanks for filing this requirement.
We think the requirement is valid.
However, at this point we have not committed to addressing the requirement. We expect to revisit the requirement during 2025 roadmap planning as look for additional customer feedback/requests for a similar capability.
When we map from CHAR to VARCHAR, we see padded spaces getting inserted to the VARCHAR column in the target.
For eg –
CHAR (3) in DB2
VARCHAR (3) in CrDB
‘A'
‘A '
We are primarily looking for the ability to trim the padding/spaces when data originating from a char field is written to a varchar field/column on the target. This needs to be configurable at the target datastore level (all tables) rather than having to be done at individual column level. We have the datastore level capability in IBM CDC for replication to Oracle and we do use it. But this is not available for flexrep yet.
We are primarily looking for trim_char_to_varchar parameter to be added at datastore level. So that whatever data originating from source DB2(char) column will get trimmed when getting applied at the target Crdb (varchar) column.
IBM Update:
Can you please clarify on the following:
What happens when you map char to varchar?
Are you primarily looking for support for mapping char (on Db2) to varchar (on CockroachDb) or is it the ability to trim the padding/spaces when data originating from a char field is written to a varchar field/column on the target?
