RELATED IDEAS

Improve availability of IBM CDC for mission critical workloads running on Linux . Write the CDC meta-data and bookmarks to kafka topics.

We currently take  data from z/OS which is classed as a Tier 0  service into IBM CDC running on Kafka/Linux. The installation on Linux does not meet the same availability as what is obtained on System z

    Thanks for filing this requirement.

    After review, we have determined we will not address this requirement.

    The reasons include:

    1. We don’t think it’s a good idea to store CDC metadata in Kafka messages. The reasons include that the metadata is not just flat files (pointbase is a database used for various purposes), Kafka messages have size limits, and Kafka is not meant for transactional workloads.

    2. We don’t think that the requirement has applicability to other customers.

    Note that our engineering SME(s) have shared alternatives to addressing the root concerns
