Support for Oracle datatype sdo_geometry in CDC

We are a railway infrastructur provider and building our realtime digital twin. For this we need very often geological position information for trains or railway infrastructure.

We use IBM CDC to integrate many of our Oracle systems realtime and we are missing the capability of the realtime replication of data with datatype sdo_geometry. We have no workaround at the moment. The # of enduser who could benefit of the feature would be very high: many of our employees (>1000) and our customers (we have several millions of travellers each year, to whom we could deliver more valueable information). So the benefits would be very high.

So the idea is to get support for the datatype sdo_geometry for the CDC Oracle Replication Engine.

Update 12.08.2025:

The Target of the replication would be either Oracle DB, where we would have the same target structure and data types as in the source DB, or Kafka Message broker, where we would write messages with or without avro serialization. (Plain JSON, or GeoJson)

    Thanks for filing this requirement and for supplying the additional details on the call with our engineer.

    After evaluation, we think that the requirement is technically valid. At this time, we will not be prioritizing addressing the requirement. As part of future roadmap planning, we will reassess for scheduling. More (additional) customer demand for support will help us with future prioritization.
