Increase the column size limit for Derived columns

In our Testing we found the size limitation for the Derived column.

  • Issue: Columns exceeding 1024 characters fail when processed in derived expressions.
  • Column Details: FIELD_VALUE VARCHAR(2000)
  • IBM : TS020837588

Error Messages:

·         `CHC0321W` Warning: Error processing expression for column `B_FIELD_VALUE`

·         `CHC0974E` Error: CHAR field failed UTF-8 validation

Target : Kafka

This is a High Priority request and it has impacted Production deployment and we had to revert back the changes. Now the business is depend on the fix, please request to fix the issue as early as possible.

We have follow up case, where IBM has suggested to raise new future request to address the limitation.

Derived expressions (e.g., `%BEFORE(FIELD_VALUE)`) have an internal 2048-byte limit. Data is converted to UCS-2 encoding (2 bytes per character), meaning any input exceeding 1024 characters fails processing.
