Upgrade DB2 z/OS native capture engine from 31‑bit to 64‑bit to lift below‑the‑bar storage limits

Problem statement  Log cache is hitting the below‑the‑bar storage ceiling because the current 31‑bit (16 MiB – 2 GiB) address space limits the amount of data that can reside in L1/L2 cache. This runs the risk of a cache spill and degrades CDC latency.

Proposed solution Migrate the program to a 64‑bit address space (2 GiB – 16 EB) so it can address the expanded L2 cache on z/OS  Z16 & Z17. This will allow the application to use the full L1 cache, the larger L2 cache, and raise the below‑the‑bar storage ceiling.

  • Reduces cache‑spill frequency → lower CDC latency
  • Increases usable below‑the‑bar storage → supports larger subscription sets
  • Leverages Z17 hardware capabilities → future‑proofs the solution
