This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Hi guys, I understand that this feature was implemented in WKC 4.7.2. Look at this link https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-data/4.7.x?topic=metadata-designing-imports.
"Collect metadata from database catalog
For metadata imports with the goal Discover that you run on relational databases, you can choose to import metadata from the database catalog. Thus, the user who runs the import needs access only to the database catalog but doesn't need to have SELECT permission on the actual data. The imported assets cannot be profiled or used in metadata enrichment.
This option is available starting in Cloud Pak for Data 4.7.2."

Hi Oana,
We discussed this with our team of developers that create CPD connections to external technologies for metadata import. We believe it is not possible to import metadata without access to the data itself.
In many cases the DBMS system catalog will not reveal objects for which you do not have access. For example, if you query the Db2 Warehouse system catalog, you will not see objects for which you do not have access. Db2 Warehouse views this as a security feature. If you do not have access to an object, then you should not be able to query the catalog to even know of the object's existence or learn anything about its schema. Teradata has a similar security feature.
I am happy to discuss this in more detail, but I am marking this as "will not implement"
Hello,
The functionality does NOT exist. And I want to import the metadata not enrich it, there are 2 different concepts. I understand the profiling cannot be done without access to the data, but I want to be able to make that choice and just import the metadata without profiling it.
Oana
Hello, marking as "functionality already exist".
Hi,
profiling cannot work without the access to data, as data analysis is essential part of profiling (please find more information at: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-data/4.6.x?topic=data-enriching-your-assets ).
That said, it is already possible to run metadata enrichment -> term assignment without the actual access to data assets.
Can you please provide more information on what is missing in existing functionality?
Best regards,
Michal
