Cohort topic name is not fully controlled by administrator

When configuring synchronization with external repositories, administrators are not able to provide custom cohort topic name while setting up the cohort configuration for glossary service and cohort configuration for catalog.

As explained in the official documentation, with the API call to configure kafka cohort connector, only the ‘topic_url_root’ request parameter and <cohort-name> path parameter can be set – configuring topic name following the default naming pattern:

<topic_url_root>.omag.openmetadata.repositoryservices.cohort.<cohort-name>.OMRSTopic

This default naming pattern restricts the administrator to fully control the topic name.

Rationale

In an enterprise organization, it is quite common to use externally governed services for Kafka messaging were certain naming conventions apples. This is usually beyond the control of the CP4D administration team.

Situation for ING

At ING for global initiatives Kafka is used as managed service. Having a way for the CP4D administrators to override the default cohort topic name is critical for enabling synchronization with external repositories.
