Dear Martin
Thank you for submitting your request regarding the backup and restore functionality within Cloud Pak for Data. We understand that you are looking to move from an existing CP4D cluster to a new cluster with concerns around potential data corruption.
To clarify, can you please elaborate further on what you mean by a migration tool?
Initially back up/restore was supported only on the same cluster. Over the past year and a half, capabilities have been extended to enable backup on one cluster and restore to another. However, this depends on the storage vendor underneath for example IBM Storage Fusion, NetApp, Portworx. In our documentation linked here, it outlines the supported and unsupported scenarios for backup and restore operations.
Your request mentions disabling the scheduler, we would like to understand more about this requirement. There are sequences of steps during the backup/restore process that ensure data consistency without the need to disable scheduling. Kindly provide details on the need to disable the scheduler. How is scheduling affecting the process? It's possible there may be a misunderstanding of the backup process or a potential defect that we need to address.
Looking forward to your response.
Best regards,
Adam Durrani
