Hi Burt - This is a one off case where customers moving from pre -CPD 4.7 to post CPD 4.7. I with IAM=false. Given we have manual steps to handle this one scenario now, I dont think we would invest in adding this automation to this specific upgrade scenario.
Dear Burt,
Thank you for your Request. We understand the difficulties Bank of America encountered with the SSO configuration during their CP4D upgrade from v4.5.1 to v4.7.3.
Here are the steps for the CP4D 4.7 Upgrade Document
a) Before you begin
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-data/4.7.x?topic=upgrading-from-cloud-pak-data-version-46#upgrade-from-46__title__4
> 4.If you use SAML SSO, export your SSO configuration. You will need to reapply your SAML SSO configuration after you upgrade to Version 4.7.
Skip this step if you use the IBM Cloud Pak foundational services Identity Management Service (Identity Management Service).
Run the following command to export your configuration to a file named samlConfig.json in the current working directory:
oc cp -n=${PROJECT_CPD_INSTANCE} \
$(oc get pods -l component=usermgmt -n ${PROJECT_CPD_INSTANCE} \
-o jsonpath='{.items[0].metadata.name}'):/user-home/_global_/config/saml ./samlConfig.json
b) Completing post-upgrade tasks
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-data/4.7.x?topic=upgrading-from-cloud-pak-data-version-46#upgrade-from-46__post-install__title__1
> If you use the following features, reapply your configurations:
SAML SSO. For more information, see Configuring single sign-on.”
Additionally, we recognize the issue with the misplaced comma in the v4.7.x documentation. We're glad the corrected instructions in v4.8.x helped resolve the configuration single sign-on challenge.
To better address the customers concerns and improve the upgrade process, could you please elaborate on the expectations for handling the SSO configuration during future upgrades? Does the steps above clarify the concerns with preserving the SSO configuration during an upgrade?
Thank you for helping us enhance the platform. Looking forward to your response.
Adam
Hi Burt, Thank for you informing us about the current upgrade experience. This issues seems to be more of a defect, however, we will review.
