Cognos Tool Behavior and Email Notifications for Scheduled Reports

Currently, we have configured scheduled reports to be automatically generated and emailed to designated recipients at specific intervals. While this feature greatly enhances our workflow efficiency, we have noticed a behavior that we believe could be improved.

Even when there is no data available to populate the report attachment, the system still sends out email notifications with empty attachments. This results in unnecessary emails being sent to recipients, leading to potential confusion and inefficiency in our communication process.

We understand that ensuring timely communication is essential, but we believe there is an opportunity to enhance the feature by implementing a mechanism to prevent email notifications from being sent when there is no data present in the report attachment.

We suggest exploring the possibility of adding an option within the Cognos configuration settings that allows users to enable/disable email notifications for empty report attachments. This would provide users with greater control over their email notifications and contribute to a more streamlined and efficient reporting process.

We greatly appreciate the continuous improvements made to the Cognos platform, and we believe that implementing this suggestion would further enhance its usability and effectiveness for users like us.
