Enhanced Data Import File Format Support for Reference Data

Problem Statement: Currently, Reference data import functionality is limited to CSV format, restricting its versatility and usability for various data sources.

Proposed Solution: Expand RDM's data import capabilities to support a wider range of commonly used file formats, including XML, JSON, CSV (comma and tab-delimited), Fixed-Width text, XLSX, and JSON/XML with hierarchical data structures.

Function Requirements:

  • UI and Batch Processing Support: Ensure that the supported file formats can be used both through the Reference user interface and via batch processing.

  • Data Validation: Implement robust data validation mechanisms to ensure data integrity and consistency during the import process.

  • Schema Mapping: Provide a flexible schema mapping feature to align imported data with RDM data structures.

  • Parsing Libraries: Leverage established parsing libraries for efficient handling of different file formats.

Benefits of Enhanced File Format Support:

  • Versatility: Enable Reference Data to handle a wider range of data sources, making it more adaptable to various use cases.

  • User Friendliness: Simplify data integration for users by offering familiar and commonly used file formats.

  • Efficiency: Streamline the data import process, reducing manual effort and potential errors.

  • Data Accessibility: Improve data accessibility by supporting formats that are widely used in different industries and applications.
