Enhanced Table Filtering: Default filter with Override Capability

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Description:

Currently, tables in IBM Maximo display all data by default, requiring users to manually filter records each time they access a table. To enhance usability, there should be a feature where tables are initially filtered by a predefined value or flag (e.g., only showing active records). However, when a user applies a new filter—such as selecting a date range—the default filter should be overridden dynamically to reflect the user’s selection.

Why is it useful?

This feature improves efficiency by reducing the number of steps users must take to find relevant data. It ensures that users start with a meaningful subset of data while still having the flexibility to refine their view as needed. By allowing automatic filter overrides, it eliminates confusion and prevents redundant filtering actions.

Who should benefit from it?

  • End-users: Enhances user experience by providing a more intuitive filtering mechanism.
  • Administrators: Helps enforce default views while still allowing user customization.
  • Business Analysts & Managers: Improves report accuracy by ensuring relevant data is presented upfront.

How should it work?

  1. Default Filter Application: When a user accesses a table, it should automatically be filtered by a predefined flag or condition (e.g., “Active” records).
  2. User Filter Override: If a user applies a new filter (e.g., selecting a date range), the default filter should be replaced with the user’s selection.
  3. Persistence Until Reset: The user’s filter should remain active until they manually reset it or navigate away.
  4. Configurable by Admins: Administrators should be able to define the default filter based on business needs.
