Gitops pattern for DataStage NG/Cloud Pak for data installation / update

The customer has implemented a standard for containerized deployments (CD pipeline) towards Kubernetes/Openshift with the following stages: Git → ArgoCD → k8s/Openshift

The current installation of Datastage based on CPD shall use the GitOps pattern of the customer above in order to avoid installation procedure using a bastion node.

The current bastion node installation is too resource intense and demands deep CPD installation expertise not available on customer’s operational level.

Furthermore the customer needs to get compliant with the following constraints:

  1. basically no direct access to Kubernetes API (port 443) with elevated privileges as it prevents the ability to guarantee an SLA for k8s/Openshift platform
  2. security patches, updates and upgrades have to be applied at fixed intervals in a deterministic time frame
  3. transparency in the deployment process in order to understand resources and applied changes (versioning)

This idea fits to the idea I have posted a time ago: https://ideas.ibm.com/ideas/CPDIDEAS-I-2681

We are looking in the same direction, as we have the need of tracking the configuration changes over multiple stages, what is currenctly not possible. Also it is currently a pain in the ass to configure cloud pak on multiple instances.
