IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Data Source Filters Not Applied During Schema and Table Listing in Data Virtualization Explore

When applying a filter at the data source level in Data Virtualization, this filter is not respected when browsing schemas and tables through the Explore interface while virtualizing objects.

Specifically, even after configuring filters on the data source, the Explore view attempts to list all schemas and tables available in the source system, ignoring the defined filter criteria. As a result, for source databases with a large number of schemas and tables, the interface experiences significant delays when loading metadata. In some cases, this process can take several minutes and may eventually result in errors.

This behavior has been reported through support case TS021559561, and IBM Support recommended submitting this enhancement request to address the limitation.

The issue of slow display of all schemas in the "Explore" tab was resolved by requiring the execution of the optimization commands SETCONFIGPROPERTY RELOADTABLES_ALLTABS and ALLCOLS with each new connection, as discussed in a case study in 2025. However, we understand that a configuration to pre-filter schemas and tables, which improves performance by limiting the number of tables loaded in the List view, could further reduce requests to the Oracle database and optimize the virtualization and reading time of virtualized data.
