RELATED IDEAS

Generic to Generic S3 Storage

Clients have storage array that support internal S3 Object Storage Bucket type connection.

These can be from various vendors.

Such connections will be using generic S3 protocol to establish connectivity to Storage Bucket.


However, currently CPD only support Amazon S3 for S3 Type Storage and MinIo type storage.

In MinIO case this connectivity requires a MinIO server to be running to establish such connection.

Not all vendor will be supporting MinIO.

If needed client can add MinIO server as a proxy between CPD and Internal S3 server.

However this is an overhead in managing the infrastrucutre.


Additionally, connecting to a local s3 has the challenge in managing certificate. This requires the S3 client to be inside the wdp-connector pod to establish connection since there is no manual way of providing the certificate to CPD. S3 bucket is expected to have the certificate by default.

    Problems to address:

    1. Ability to provide optional SSL certificate as a parameter of the datasource type (required for private datasource credentials)
    1. Ability to set the region - right now, the S3 connector always uses the same region when accessing S3 ('us-west-2'). Using this region may not work with internal S3 data sources.
