Proposal for an Official CPLEX R Package for Seamless RStudio Integration

I’d like to suggest that IBM develop and maintain an official R package for the CPLEX solver. Today, R users must rely on a handful of hard-to-install third-party libraries, whereas competitors like Gurobi ship a polished “gurobi” package that installs effortlessly from CRAN and works out of the box in RStudio. Given the surging popularity of R for mixed-integer programming and data science, an IBM-supported CPLEX package would:

  • Simplify installation and configuration

  • Provide R-native wrappers for core CPLEX APIs (model building, parameter tuning, solution extraction)

  • Improve user experience and adoption among academic and industry practitioners

  • Reinforce IBM’s leadership in optimization software

Thank you for considering this enhancement—making CPLEX more accessible to the vibrant R community would deliver significant value.
