Manta SAP HANA scanner to support calculation view

In 42.14 we have support of the data lineage for nested calculation views. In case given Calculation view is based on other Calculation View, Analytics view or Attribute view, it will be visible in the dataflow visualization. However, in this version, we don't yet support upstream data lineage for the Analytics view or Attribute view, this support is expected to be done in 42.15.

Here is the attached example. Calculation view CALC_VIEW25 is based on table, another Calculation view CALC_VIEW10 (which itself is based on table), Analytical view ANA_VIEW1 and Attribute view ATTR_VIEW1. And there is a visible lineage from those input data sources. And, as I mentioned above, for ANA_VIEW1, ATTR_VIEW1, there is no input lineage supported yet, and in the next version, there will be incoming edges for those attribute and analytical views.

Is nested calculation view supported in Manta 42.14 ?

If no, will it be part of 42.15 as we have usage of this view in our applications.

If nested views are supported in 42.14, and a nested view incorporates other script views or analytical calculation views ;  then will lineage be shown for the top level or parent nested calculation view ? What will be the behavior of such nested views ?

In the version 42.14 will be delivered limited support of the data lineage through the calculation views. This version covers the following:

• Extraction of the Graphical (Tree-Based) Calculation Views from the SAP HANA, along with the Packages they are organized in.

• Support of the scenarios - projection, union, join, and rank

• Input source for the Calculation view could be: table, view, synonym or other Calculation View. Analytical view as input still needs to be verified.

In 42.15 version, support of the Calculation Views will be supported with following:

• Support of the scenarios of the Graphical Calculation Views - aggregation, star-join.

• Support of the Data Lineage for script-based Calculation Views

• Support of the Data Lineage for Attribute Views

• Support of the Data Lineage for Analytical Views

Here is what is used / not used and its impact if not supported

1. Attribute Views - Not used at our company.

2. Analytical views - Used at our company. Will not be supported in 42.14

   • IMPACT - If Manta can still get the lineage from the standard graphical views that are based on the analytical view then it may not be an impact to the lineage. Otherwise, will impact lineage.

3. Nested Calculation views - Used at our company. Will be supported in 42.14

4. Script based Calculation views - Used at our company. Will not be supported ib 42.14

   • IMPACT - Will impact lineage.

5. Standard Graphical views - Used at our company. Will be supported in 42.14

For the initial version of the Data Lineage through the Calculation Views, we are aiming to support standard Graphical views and Nested Calculation View, in the sense when Calculation View is getting data from another Calculation View.

Other types of views likst Attribute views, Analytical view, and Script based Calculation views are going to be part of the subsequent deliveries.

Would require support of these to be able to derive meaningful lineage.

Support of the Data Lineage through the SAP HANA Calculation Views is planned to be delivered in a limitted MVP scope in 42.14 (IKC 5.3) which will GA in the end of 2025. We expect to support TREE_BASED Calculation Views, with the basic Scenarios. More detailed lineage will be delivered in the subsequence versions.
