Manta SAP HANA scanner to support calculation view

Why it is useful?

SAP HANA at Truist uses calculation view intensively. There are a few key tables that get loaded via stored procedures and those stored procedures loads data from several calculation views and/or nested calculation view. Without SAP HANA scanner supporting calculation view, it will not produce a full end-to-end data lineage from source to target of SAP HANA system

Manta support for calculation view in SAP HANA is therefore essential deploy scanner to Production.

How it should work ?

Manta SAP HANA scanner should include support of calculation view scanning in Production. The scanning should include calculation views and nested calculation views.

    Here is what is used / not used and its impact if not supported

    1. Attribute Views  - Not used at Truist. 
    2. Analytical views - Used at Truist. Will not be supported in 42.14
      • IMPACT - If Manta can still get the lineage from the standard graphical views that are based on the analytical view then it may not be an impact to the lineage. Otherwise, will impact lineage. 
    3. Nested Calculation views - Used at Truist. Will be supported in 42.14
    4. Script based Calculation views - Used at Truist. Will not be supported ib 42.14
      • IMPACT - Will impact lineage.
    5. Standard Graphical views - Used at Truist. Will be supported in 42.14

    For the initial version of the Data Lineage through the Calculation Views, we are aiming to support standard Graphical views and Nested Calculation View, in the sense when Calculation View is getting data from another Calculation View.

    Other types of views likst Attribute views, Analytical view, and Script based Calculation views are going to be part of the subsequent deliveries.

    Here are the Types of Views used in SAP HANA applications at Truist:

    1. Analytical views
    2. Standard Graphical views
    3. Script based Calculation views
    4. Nested Calculation views

    Would require support of these to be able to derive meaningful lineage.

    Support of the Data Lineage through the SAP HANA Calculation Views is planned to be delivered in a limitted MVP scope in 42.14 (IKC 5.3) which will GA in the end of 2025. We expect to support TREE_BASED Calculation Views, with the basic Scenarios. More detailed lineage will be delivered in the subsequence versions.
