Manta SAP HANA scanner to support analyzing ABAP scripts for comprehensive lineage

Why it is useful?

The applications running on SAP HANA systems at Truist utilizes scripts in ABAP for business logic and transformations.

ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) is the programming language used to build and extend applications running on the SAP HANA database. It is the core language for developing business logic within the SAP ecosystem.

Without scanning and interpreting ABAP scripts is leading to gaps in lineage among the SAP HANA objects. The scripts comprising of transformation logic is integral to derive complete end-to-end data lineage of the applications.

 

Who would benefit from it ?

Manta users / business users gathering inference from lineage

 

How it should work ?

Manta SAP HANA scanner should extract ABAP script components and parse it. If there is ABAP code that handles data operations or movements, Manta should parse it to create the map of how data flows (the input and output) through to the tables/views or procedures in the database.  It should identify and build the lineage to other the objects it references to help understand the data's journey.

    Unfortunately, support of the Data Lineage through ABAP scripts is not on our short- and mid-term roadmap. This will require implementation of the parsing scanner for the new programming language, which is multy-month effort, usually 9-12 months, thus we are not considering it right now.
