COBOL, unlike SQL queries, relies heavily on the use of "IF" statements, which can be prevalent throughout the script. This frequent use of conditional statements can create many indirect edges in the data lineage, which may degrade the performance of lineage visualization. Furthermore, it could negatively impact lineage consumption by the end user.
Truist's has identified 28 Mainframe applications that has COBOL code in a git repository.
To assess the COBOL scanner capability in Manta on pilot basis we picked two applications like CIF and SHAW. CIF application COBOL code is scanned in Manta.
During Lineage validation, we found this gap. Discussed with @Michal Bartos and he suggested to raise an IDEA for this.
