Add support for SAP HANA technology in OpenLineage Events

While scanning OpenLineage event JSON that includes SAP HANA assets, Manta successfully generates lineage but incorrectly classifies SAP HANA tables as generic OpenLineage (OL) nodes instead of database table nodes.

This results in:

  • Incorrect visualization in the lineage flow viewer

  • SAP HANA assets not being recognized as a proper database technology

  • Additional manual remediation steps for every environment or deployment

It has been confirmed that SAP HANA is currently not supported in Manta’s OpenLineage Integration default and therefore has no native namespace or technology type assigned.

This limitation affects lineage accuracy for pipelines that include SAP HANA ABAP Scripts as a target system.
Impacts include:

  • Not able to visualize lineage from ABAP scripts which uses SAP Hana Tables.

  • Manual mapping maintenance in /mantaflow/cli/temp/openlineage/openlineageDatasetMantaMapping.csv

Workaround Provided

Recommended manually updating:

/mantaflow/cli/temp/openlineage/openlineageDatasetMantaMapping.csv

Adding a line such as:

<OL connection id>;"sap://truist-esp_dev.privatelink:30515";"(.+)";"SAPHANA";"";"$1"

    Hi Jakub,

My suggestion is that Manta should automatically recognize and assign the correct technology type for SAP HANA OpenLineage events, similar to how it works for other supported technologies. This would remove the need for manually adding a mapping, making the process more seamless for users.

    Hi Tufail,

thank you for reaching out with the idea. The mapping framework is extendible by default; adding the mapping is a valid solution, not a workaround. On Unified Lineage, the default SAP Hana mapping for OpenLineage is present already.

Is that for your use case?

    Thank you, Jakub Moravec
