SSIS scan of event handlers that do not contribute to lineage should be logged as warnings, not errors.

While scanning SSIS dtsx packages using IBM Manta Data Lineage, we observed errors when SSIS System namespace variables are referenced inside event handlers specifically OnPostExecute

SSIS deployment in our organization does not use the MSSQL SSIS database. Hence, these dtsx packages are scanned using a git connection in Manta.

The issue was raised with IBM support Case TS021538098

Problem

The Manta SSIS scanner reports
FAILED_TO_RESOLVE_VARIABLE_IN_COMPONENT when SSIS System:: variables (e.g. System::SourceID, System::UserName) are referenced in event handlers such as OnPostExecute.

These variables are runtime initialized by SQL Server Agent and cannot be resolved through static analysis. IBM has confirmed that this condition does not impact lineage

The current behavior logs to this condition as an ERROR, creating operational noise for otherwise valid SSIS packages.

Expectation

Treat unresolved SSIS System: variables as WARNINGS instead of ERRORS

Business Impact

  • Creates false negatives
  • Generates unnecessary scan noise
  • Increases support and review overhead
