File System that are derived in Manta should be marked as Derived

Truist uses Informatica Power Center to process critical data elements (CDE) from different Applications relying on several technologies like Oracle, MSSQL, DB2 LUW, 2, Salesforce, Filesystem Db2 ZOS, Netezza.

Data Governance Stewards are using Manta Platform to scan and analyze these applications in Bank. Further to identify the source of origin holding these CDE’s and do impact analysis of the change on of these or all CDE’s if any.

Once the Data lineage is available in Manta the next step is to validate the lineage in Manta and to verify the correctness of representation.

We Scanned few of the applications folders in Manta and majority of the Dataflows are using source or target as File System. All File Systems we see in Manta are derived so Manta should mark them as derived instead of just showing the Filesystem and their columns underneath as the File System is never scanned in Manta.

For an example one of the applications is using source as Oracle and Target as File System. So, once we validate the lineage of the Filesystem, we see the columns under the filesystem are not derived and no Deduced tags are shown.

 

Business impact: Any lineage that involves files system will show an incorrect representation to Data Governance Stewards

Expected Outcome:

Manta should provide a way to represent the file System and their columns underneath by showing Deduced Tags just like other technologies Oracle, MSSQL.
